WORKSHOPS
I have created this page specially for my former ESL colleagues from Ukraine. All the workshops are designed to provide hands-on experience working with cutting-edge Ed Tech tools to develop digital ESL projects. For some examples, visit my Ed Tech and ID Project pages.
Ed Tech Solutions for Groupwork
In this workshop, we will use Miro Whiteboard, Padlet Visual Board as well as Wakelet Content Creation Platform to design sample interactive lesson activities with all types of media (audio, video, images), a fascinating selection of design features (sticky notes, emojis, shapes, etc) as well as multiple ways to provide individual and group feedback with comments, likes or polling boards.
Gamification in ESL classes
What seems to be the only language that kids understand? Right, the language of games! Design a breakout room in Genially, create a scenario in Rise 360, develop your own interactive boarding game in Symbaloo, draft a WebQuest in Bookwidgets, or adjust existing templates in Brightful games. Looking for more? Let students practice being good Digital Citizens in Interland while improving their English!
Creating Interactive Images in Genial.ly
If I had to use just one tool in the classroom - that would certainly be Genial.ly! Design responsive grammar presentations with clickable examples, logical transitions, and interactive practice exercises. Develop eye-catching infographics with vocabulary groups equipped with on-demand pronunciations, click-to-reveal definitions, and illustrations as prompts. Create interactive maps with cultural tours or simple branching scenarios to practice dialogues. Opportunities are immense!
Tests, Quizzes, Surveys, Quesstionnaires & more
Assessment is an integral part of any lesson. Instructional technology can make it fun. Explore such classic test-building tools as Socrative, Google, and MS Forms as well as newer ones like Aha-slides and Poll Everywhere. Use AI to create quiz questions from your text or video resources with Quizbot.ai, or simply let students have some fun with Growdpurr!
The Infinite Possibilities of Visuals in ESL
Have your students ever used Animoto to make video presentations? Do you use Bitmoji to design avatars? Would you like your learners to create and add voice-overs to animated cartoons in Animaker or Adobe Animator? Have you ever designed comics in Pixton? Do you have a PPT presentation that you want to turn into a narrated video with Narakeet? Have you ever considered generating illustrations for your textbooks with Midjourney?
Exploring the World with Ed Tech
Meet your students in virtual reality via the Qube, explore the virtues of Digital Citizenship in Interland, and talk to any historical person or fictional character with Khanmigo.
Let your learners practice math in English with Happy Numbers, and improve your reading with Lexia Reading Core, and Amira Learning along with their American peers. Note that some of these tools may require a subscription.
Publishing your Online Course in Rise 360
Rise 360 (free for a 30-day trial) is one of the most acclaimed e-learning design tools. Despite being extremely easy to use, it is full of the most contemporary features like interactive images, simple scenarios, various quiz questions, and fancy presentation elements. Publish your course online and set the password for students to join. In school settings, alternatives to Rise 360 may include Nearpod or Lumio.
Designing your Portfolio
The benefits of creating your portfolio are plenty! You may use it to introduce yourself to prospective students or employers, promote your classes on social media, or as a convenient repository of your ESL resources. During the workshop, I will walk you through all the steps including visual design, technical implementation, and content organization.
